1 Shirtdress. 2 Ways

One way to remix a shirtdress is to layer a striped tee underneath.

No matter what the fabric of the shirtdress, feel free to have some fun!  My dress is navy blue silk and I put an old Old Navy striped tee on underneath.  I did, however, have trouble figuring out which shoes to wear with; I eventually just went with the Hunters since it was so wonderfully sleeting outside this morning!

Layering again

A classic option...

Classic Twisted

I've been doing some "blog-searching" lately and have been thinking about my own blogging experience. Much of this thinking is done in the shower or in the car when I'm driving alone (the latter happens way less than the former!).  I find that my best thinking happens then.  The more I think about the wonderful ideas I've had for this blog and the countless conversations I've had with others while sharing my ideas, I keep coming back to the heart of "helping"...I want this to be a place of ideas to rethink a piece or an outfit.  I'm going to try my best to stick to that.  I can't guarantee that you'll always find my posts helpful or that I won't post a picture of myself in the outfit, but at least my vision is getting clearer!  Thanks for sticking with me. xo

Palazzo Play

Since my husband has been on travel a lot lately, I've had a slight lift on the shopping ban.  Keeping within a *meager* means, I was able to pick up these awesome pants last weekend at Nordstrom.  Unfortunately, I'm slightly shorter than the average wearer and had no shoes TALL enough to make them work for me this morning.  I tried even the tallest platforms I own...this resulted in me teetering over in my closet and eventually deciding it just wasn't gonna happen for them today.

I did, however, end up with a pair of boring brown trousers.  I threw on my cargo jacket, some nude pumps and tons of jewelry, as always, in hopes I could save this outfit in less than 5 minutes.  (I was running a little behind since I'd already spent so much time on the high shoe vs. hem issue!)

Closet Lesson Learned:
Pairing a turtleneck underneath a jacket can be a great option.  I wore my cargo jacket that I typically save for warmer months and rolled up the sleeves.  Not only was it a light layer, but this way the color of the turtleneck was the showcase as were the bracelets.

Versatile Blogger Awards!!

I've won two Versatile Blogger Awards!!  Many many thanks to two wonderful bloggers, Lauren of Lauren T Fashion and Pip of Chic Stay at Home Mom who so graciously awarded me.  You have made my day!

Be sure to check out both of their blogs!  Lauren's blog has some great outfit inspirations and photos; and she is a new blogger already making waves!  Pip is an inspirational "chic" stay-at-home who has a great knack for making every outfit fashionably not a "mom" outfit.

As a recipient of these awards, I also have to reveal 7 things about myself.  Duh duh duh.
(Why do I feel a little writer's block coming on at this exact moment?? hehe)

Here goes...

1. I'm more than slightly obsessed with J.Crew and secretly wish I could still be working in retail.  Well, maybe not so secretly.  I openly wish this. If only there were more hours in the day.:)

2. If I wasn't teaching, I would love to be a personal shopper.  I get such a kick out of helping others feel good in what they're wearing.  I so believe that clothing is a form of expression; you walk a little taller and feel more confident when you are dressed your best and know that you look good!  Another reason why I decided to launch Closet Fashion Fix; just one more way I can help others and inspire their outfits.

3. I despise decorating.  I never know what looks good in a room, yet somehow have no problem with putting together accessories and other accoutrements to complete a look.  Huh.

4. I love being a mom to my uh-dorable lil girl, yet still enjoy my girl time away just as much.  I don't think I'll ever understand why women feel the need to embellish about how "wonderful" mommyhood is. I enjoy being me with my friends; now as just a better, more responsible, version of me.

5. I thoroughly enjoy being a working mom.  Don't get me wrong, I admire those that can stay at home (here's to you chicstayathomemom!), but I love going to work every day and think it makes me a better mom because of it.

6. I don't like wearing jeans.  They're too restricting and uncomfortable in my eyes.  Trousers and skirts always win in my book.

7. I love listening to dance/techno/electronic music on my way to work in the morning.  It's like my audio coffee. :)

Wow.  That was intense to write!  I rarely get serious on you, my lovely readers, but it feels good to reveal a little more than my fashion obsessions and outfits with you finally.  Thanks for reading!

Here are the 15 blogs that I nominate for this award!  Congratulations to all that receive it: I always look forward to reading your posts and love the outfit inspirations you give me! xo

(Some of these blogs may be beyond receiving "blogger" awards, but I love them anyway!)

Floral Play

How many of you actually own a pair of floral pants?  And if you do, can I borrow them?  (just in case, I'm a size 6... Hehe)  I just don't know if I could actually bring myself to invest in a pair.  I do love the look and the idea of these vibrant prints that are popping up all over.

Case in point...
I mean, how cute are those?  With a casual sweater and black pumps?  Ahhhh.

Instead of buying a new pair of pants (wait, I can't.) I decided to take this look on top.  I paired a fruity print (the top has strawberries on it) top with skinny pants.

Looking back, I was trying to do too much with this.  It was cold out, so I threw on a cardigan. Eh.  And then a scarf.  Double eh.  And then the necklaces. Oh boy.  So...

Closet Lesson Learned:
Sometimes it's okay to do "less is more" when getting dressed.  If I were to rethink this outfit, I would just go with the pants, belt, top and necklaces.  The printed top (or pants) should be the focus.  Let it be!

Casual Fringe

Since I'm not allowed to shop, I'm now looking for new ways to put together my closet faves.  Here's the outfit from today...I added a touch of fur to keep the slouchy sweater from being to casual with the fringe-tastic skirt.
(I also swapped out my Hunters with wedge heels; it was a rainy and foggy day in Michigan today!)

See my previous post with this skirt and its other options:

Skirt, Sweater, & Jewels: J.Crew
Wedge heels: Paolo

My inspiration for today's outfit.  Love you Pinterest!
