What to Pack this Weekend

Packing for a Weekend at the Lake

Memorial Weekend is upon us...that 3 day (for some 4!) weekend that I'm sure we're all looking forward to.  BBQ's, friends, family, busytime or downtime- sounds wonderful, but what do I wear?!

We're getting out of town and going north (by north, I mean fighting traffic for about 5 hours along I-75 and some other county roads until we reach the lake).  This calls for packing comfortable and light.  Two words that I don't usually think of when packing.  Inspired by my own challenges, here is my packing list for the weekend.

Have a wonderful time whereever you are and whatever you do!

I just had to add on my husband's response to this post.  He's so funny.

What To Wear to a 'Coat and Tie' Event

I've been asked recently what to wear to a "Coat and Tie" event taking place at a country club.  This post would also apply to weddings and other slightly formal weekend/evening events that you may attend.  (Especially now that the warmer months are here- the best time to celebrate anything!)

When thinking about the outfit for this, you don't want the spotlight to be entirely on you, but you do want it to stop long enough to notice that you're there. A simple sheath dress or strapless dress would be perfect for an event like this; classic shapes that work for almost any evening affair. For country club gatherings, I tend to think more of a "garden party" event. I would recommend leaning towards the conservative side and bringing a cardigan or pashmina or cover your shoulders. I like to steal the show with the added extras, such as jewelry and other accessories. An awesome necklace, bracelet, or earrings would add to the look of understated elegance.

Here are some ideas for what to wear:

Even a day-to-night sheath dress in a fun color would make a great backdrop to great accessories!

Ella Dress

Another Closet Fashion Fix
Hi Courtney - I bought the J.Crew Ella dress in purple paisley and wanted to know what you think I should accessorize with (shoes, jewelry, purse). It's for a summer wedding. Please help, you're the J.Crew expert!
Well, I don't know about that, but I do know that I love that store!  I went to visit the dress just for you, Nicole and here is what I came up with so far...

I like the idea of pairing a bright colored shoe with this dress.  It would really 'pop' against the print!  (A bright belt would work here, too.)  I kept the accessories simple; the shoes outshine anything else.
Wedding Look #1

Turquoise is so pretty in the summer.  Paired with nudes and neutrals, I don't think you can go wrong!
Wedding Look #2

I'm sure there's more where this came from...give me a little while and I'll come up with more!  I hope this gets you thinking and looking in that closet of yours.  I'm sure you can find something to pair it with!

(ps. all of the items I picked are less than $50- in case you want something fun and new!)
