Brighten Up Your Holiday Style

When I think of holiday style, I definitely don't think of neons. But why stick to the predictable this season? A wild card pairing of burgundy and citron is an unpredictable combination to shake up any holiday look. Be different this season and wear your neon. I am!

Always a Reason to Be Thankful

And that's exactly how I feel after reading this personal essay written by one of my former students. And I must mention, a very fashionable former student. *wink*  This essay was written for a project in her 5th grade writing class, but the author has since moved on to middle school. I have been holding on to her words for awhile and waiting for the perfect moment to share it on the blog and let it leave its virtual stamp; I think it's safe to say, that moment is now.  At a time when everyone is celebrating what they are most thankful for, these inspiring words popped out at me as a reminder that, in more than one aspect of my life, in many different ways, I have an impact on others.  THAT is a powerful thing and one that I am forever thankful.

I used to think dressing nicely wasn't important until I met Mrs. Miarka
she changed my ways.
mrs. miarka was always happy and i wonder why, so when I started dressing nicely i became more happy and  confident in myself like i believe in myself . Mrs. Miarka doesn't just wear clothes its how she wears them.
Mrs. Miarka is not afraid to wear what she wants to wear and neither am I because if what I wear makes me happy then that is all that matters.

Mrs. Miarka has a lot of pretty jewelry and that is also important because it adds a sparkle to your outfit to make it look more festive  and it will also make yourself look better.

So now I think dressing nicely is important because you feel happy because your yourself and nobody can change that.

Holiday Dressing

I'm getting ready to pack for our annual Thanksgiving get-a-way in Chicago. I am SO ready for a vacation but my mind is going in a million different directions.  What to wear for Thanksgiving dinner? What do I wear for shopping downtown? What about the late-night movie? A back-up outfit in case I don't like anything I brought? Did I pick up my skirt from the dry cleaners?

Sound familiar?! What is a girl to do other than consult Pinterest! Here are my inspirations for this week's holiday dressing and more.

Black Pants and a Cute Top...Forever

Remember the days when black pants were the only type of bottoms that you needed to own?
Weekend night out?  Check.
Date party?  Check.
Sunday best?  Check.
Wear to class with a sweater? Yup, I know I did.

Black pants were the staple of every 20-something's wardrobe. And may still be the staple of some 30 and 40-something's wardrobes.  So what? After recently reading an article in The Cut, regarding most women's ancient love for their black pants, I was inspired to find new and improved versions of the wear-with-everything pant that can still get you from day to night.

I'm happy to say that the quintessential black pant is still around, just in a slightly more flattering form (read: higher-waisted, not as rear-accentuating,  and less crotch pulling).

Here are my favorite styles and inspirations for how to wear them.

You can still rock... "black pants and a cute top".

I am so excited to share with you a little recap of the Fall Fashion Show with Madison Boutique! If you've never heard of this affordable, trendy, and fabulous online boutique be sure to hop on over to catch all the new fall styles. "Each piece [will] leave you feeling beautiful, sassy, and excited to get dressed." -  Being a part of the company's first Fall Fashion runway showcase was such an honor.  Not to mention, after the show, guests were given access to the clothes and accessories to shop till we dropped.  What a fun night!

Some beautiful party-goers awaiting the fashions to come down the runway.

Loved all the fall pieces that were showcased in the runway show.

Trying on was the most fun!  I picked up this great cargo jacket and wore it the next day.  I especially like the pairing of army green with a sequin top underneath.

Fash Bash Fuschia

I recently had the honor of attending a fabulous fundraiser for the Detroit Institute of Arts featuring a fashion runway presentation sponsored by Neiman Marcus.  This annual event is hosted by the DIA’s Founders Junior Council and has been the museum’s signature fundraiser since 1970.  Attendees enjoyed cocktails, fashion, and dancing under the stars for a cultural and charitable cause.  What an amazing night and stylish affair!
