Sponsored: Stella and Dot Style Week: Day 3

Today's Stella and Dot outfit inspiration is for those weekend events that call for a little more than jeans and a top. I love the look of kelly green and royal blue together.

This dress is a flattering style for any shape with its nipped in waist and full skirt. A cardigan could easily be worn over top to dress it down, as well.

The belt and shoes create a contrast that keeps this outfit from being too matchy-matchy.  The neutral clutch doesn't draw attention away from the rest of the outfit- the metallic lines add interest.

I love this necklace and bracelet combination! It's like they were meant for each other!

Styling Session in Kristen's Closet

My latest Closet Fix was for a client who is also a Stella and Dot jewelry and accessories stylist.  Not only did she have some great clothes, but the accessories were to die for! (No joke.  Enough to make many women jealous!)

Kristen has an amazing closet full of staple items and basics.  To keep with her "mom on the go" style, I showed her some new ways to mix up the colors she had in her closet already.   Like many of us, she enjoys a great pair of skinny jeans or black ankle pants.  I wanted to stay true to her style so I used these in as many outfits as I could.  I also wanted to pair multiple shades of the same color together to help give her clothes new dimension through layering.

Don't be afraid to wear shades of blue in the same outfit- even with your jeans!  A dark rinse jean is the best for this look.  I love how the jewels pop against the sea of navy in this outfit.

Up-cycle those blouses of yours and layer them under a v-neck sweater.  Punchy hues like poppy, orange, and red look great together in one outfit.

This outfit was one of our favorites.  I chose the top because it is one that she reaches for to wear with jeans or black pants to go out.  I wanted to create a look that would give her another opportunity to wear this top.  Layering a long sleeve tee, stripes under stripes, boots and a scarf give this weekend glam top some casual appeal!

This is an example of what a difference a scarf can make.  An everyday tee and cardigan can come alive with just the wrap of a scarf around the neck.  A printed one works best with solid layers.

A printed one works best with solid layers.

This outfit may seem basic, but black and white is anything but.  Don't overlook the power of pairing black and white.  It can be dressed up easily and always looks polished- especially with some properly placed jewels!

I absolutely love the color of this sweater!  And the look of a statement necklace layered under a printed scarf.  Casual glam!

These ivory jeans were a new purchase for her.  A smart one!  White and ivory jeans can be worn year round.  Tucked in to boots in the winter, with ankle boots and flats in the fall and spring, and with a great sandal in the summertime.  Paired with colors or black they are a great staple to have in any closet.

No the lighting is not deceiving you, this outfit is entirely neutrals.  Pairing neutral shades, taupes, and whites make a fun backdrop for mixing metallic jewelry and showing off your shoes.  Stick with black or brown on your feet as to not compete with the rest of the outfit.  Layers work best with a neutral look like this.

I found this amazing maxi skirt in her closet that had not left the hanger.  Wear your maxi skirts now with a pair of boots and a long sleeve tee tucked in.  Add a scarf for added warmth.  I promise you won't be sorry that you made it a four season item!

Pairing contrasting brights and stripes is a favorite of mine.  When adding a little quirkiness, keep the look going by adding some unpredictable items like a lace up wedge bootie or buttoning up your shirt all the way to the collar or layering a necklace over the sweater.

This last look was a favorite of ours as well.  Pairing bold separates in different shades is an easy way for Kristen to mix it up and keep it fun when she's getting dressed!

Much to her chagrin, I believe that Kristen has some great pieces in her closet!  I mean, in just 30 minutes we had already found over a dozen new ways for her to wear what she owned.

A lesson in never underestimating the power of your own closet!

Thank you Kristen for letting CFF style you!

Have Fun With Color
You've seen it in catalogs.  You've seen it in magazines.  You've seen it in the stores.  Colorblocking is here to stay.  You too can try this trend...I promise!  I designed this look for all ages and shapes.  Here's why it works...
  • The jeans I chose are NYDJ jeans (Not Your Daughter's Jeans) and are just that.  In fact, my own mother, who never wore jeans a day in her life until almost the age of 50, swears by this brand.  Their style works for so many reasons- the higher rise, quality fabric, and perfect cut make these jeans a winner in everyone's book!  The turquoise hue and slim leg are just a bonus that make them a spring staple.

  • The MICHAEL by Michael Kors top is a blousy fit that compliments the slimness of the jeans.  Always remember to balance out your shapes- if you're going tight on the bottom, you can wear a looser fit on top, and vice versa.  I like the pink shade as a nice contrast to the turquoise jean.
  •
  • A tote bag is a must for the woman on the go- to the pool, to the grocery store, or to your next vacation destination!  I love how the sea-inspired tote brings all the colors in this outfit together.

It's Still Snowing Here

With all the hype and hopes about Spring lately, I thought I'd just remind everyone that it's still winter here.  Yup.  As I write these words, snowflakes continue to fall outside my window.  Not that it's a bad thing, I'm all for spring as much as the next sun lover, but don't let all the "spring fashions" and "spring style updates" fool you into thinking that the tulips are going to bloom soon.  Since they're not and I'm still wearing sweaters, pants, and sometimes boots to keep warm, let me be the first to offer some 'practical style advice' directly matched to the weather outside.
{you're welcome}

Pile on those sweaters with a little pop of color!

To Liven up a winter weather outfit

(Disclaimer: I may write future posts about spring styles that I'm coveting...and might try to wear...in hopes to help those tulips bloom just a little bit faster for us all!)
