What To Wear When You Have Two Minutes to Get Dressed

c/o MDM Photography
I've had numerous clients ask me what is the perfect "go-to" outfit for when you're pressed for time but want to be casually chic.  My answer has been different for each client depending on their style and closet contents.  However, if I could only answer this question in two words for the rest of my fashionable life I would have to say: STRIPED DRESS.

Now, I am fully aware that many of my lovely readers are jeans lovers and may shudder at my bold statement of donning a dress for anything casual, but I promise that nothing is quicker (or more comfortable) than pulling a striped frock on over your head and running out the door.  (Try it and time yourself.  You'll see what I mean.)  Why stripes?  They are always in style and on trend.  When was the last time you heard someone say, or read somewhere, that stripes are OUT?  That's right.  Probably never.  So go ahead!  Invest in that perfect shape skimming- not form-fitting - flattering and comfortable dress that you can wear with flats, sneakers, sandals, or even out on the town with a pair of wedges.  You won't be sorry!

Sunny Days!

It may be only 40 degrees outside, but at least the sun is shining and tempting me to bask in it!  This calls for some stylish sunnies.  I wait all winter long to bust out my sunglasses and rock them without looking like I'm trying to hide tired eyes.  (Although, stylish sunglasses are always an option to hide the bags when all else fails.)

I like to have a few pairs to choose from depending on my mood, outfit, and the look I'm going for that day.  And to make sure that there is at least one pair in my car. purse. my husband's car. diaper bag. school bag. alternate purse. work.  ...Yikes.  So really, what it sounds like is I don't want to be caught without them.  You know, like having a back-up for the back-up pair.  Since I'm aware of this excess, I splurge on one pair and the rest are for fun and just-in-case.  (I've also found some great designer pairs on eBay for a fraction of the price.)

Here are my favorite styles to try right now...and that are currently hiding in glove compartments, drawers, totes, and bags around my world...  *sigh*

Shop the Sales!

I'm typically ALL for making the most of what you already have, but on a weekend like this where the sales are everywhere, it's hard NOT to shop!  If you're anything like me, you LOVE a good deal like a hot dog loves baseball and there are so many to be had right now.

The trick to not going over board is to take a quick inventory of what you have.  Make a list of the items that you could add to your wardrobe, or have been wanting, and keep those in mind before you shop.  Don't shop just to shop- shop to STOCK up on what you need.

All of these weekend deals came to me through email lists.  Even though you may not like getting the "spammy" emails from retailers, it's a good idea to create an account just for this reason.  Give it a fun name like, "shoppingsista@yahoo.com" or "illneverpayfullprice@gmail.com".  You will never have to shop without a discount code again!

Will you be shopping this weekend?  Be sure to comment with your purchases, or wishlist, if you do!

Anyone Can Have a Stylist: GNO Spring Style

Know what I love the most? Styling my clients in their OWN clothes in a way that makes them feel fabulous. I LOVE hearing the question, "What should I wear?", for any event. Most recently a client and I were chatting and it came up that she had a busy family-filled Saturday with an evening planned for dinner and a show with the girls. Anytime your weekend is packed with events, the last thing you want to spend your brainpower on is the multiple outfit changes you may have to endure to attempt looking effortlessly chic through it all. That's where having a stylist who knows your style, your life, and exactly what you have in your closet is necessary! A personal stylist takes the "guessing out of dressing" and let's you enjoy the all of the compliments you will receive all weekend long!

The outfit I styled for my client was centered around a lively printed blouse by Liberty for J.Crew. She hadn't worn it yet and wanted to see how she could wear it out.

I styled it two ways. One with sassy red heels for a lighter look. The other look incorporates another print, tons of colorful Stella and Dot jewelry and nude heels for a more daring take on this proper print. Both outfits she has in her closet. I can't wait to hear about her her amazing outfit!
