Sundress dressing (Sun not Required)

I personally wish that sundresses were okay to wear year round.  Unfortunately, in the unpredictable Michigan climate, that wouldn't really work.  So instead, I wear them every chance I can during the 3 or 4 months that the weather allows.   Even when it's not sunny. (gasp! I know!) You can too...

  • If you have a denim jacket, wear it over the dress to keep you warm.
  • Pile on the jewels!  The best part of dressing casual is dressing it up with some fun accessories.
  • Colorful sneakers add a quirky touch to the ensemble. ;-)

Happy Saturday!

Hi-Low Hem to Tulip Skirt

        www.stylelistaconfessions.com

The hi-low hem is still a popular style for skirts and dresses these days. If you're like me, you may have your moments where you want a change. Or are just over this uneven hemline. For this... I have a solution!

On a whim (not to mention, an extremely hot, humid, and muggy 95 degree day) I wanted to shorten the hem of my hi-low dress. By doing so, I created a "tulip" skirt- a chic, and cooler, option!

Here's how:

•Pinch the hem in the back of the dress.
Pull it up and out.

•Fold the pinched portion up to the waistline. It helps to have a belt or sash to disguise this sly tailoring option.

•Pin the hem to the dress or belt. Here I have it pinned to the underside of the belt to hide the evidence (aka safety pin).

And here is the final look.

With the belt cinched up, so is your hi-low hem!

Sometimes You Just Need to Get Away...

This past weekend, my husband and I took a trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan. By ourselves.  No toddler.  No entourage.  Just us.  And let me tell you- it was heaven-in-a-hotel-room.  Somehow we managed to do everything that would normally require a babysitter all in one weekend.  We went out.  Played golf.  Took naps.  Slept in.  Went to the movies.  Relaxed on the lawn at a concert.  Even slipped in a quick mountain bike ride.  Phew! Needless to say, we're exhausted but so happy that we took the time for ourselves to reconnect and be 'us' together for a weekend.

As you can imagine, with all of the above events, packing for this trip was no small feat.  I originally thought we would have an easygoing weekend, nothing too fancy, so I just packed some shorts and shirts.  Good thing I threw in a few last minute "What if we do [insert any imaginable activity here]?  I might need this!" items.  Here's what ended up coming out of my suitcase...
