Closet Clean Out

Ready to make room for the New Year (or maybe even, the new you) in your closet?  Spending some time with your wardrobe can help you reconnect with your style and uncover items you love. Here are my favorite tips for refreshing your closet space:

  • Try-On
    • This first step may take the longest, but is the most important.  Taking the time to try-on what you own forces you to reconsider every item of clothing.  And also, the amount of clothing you may own.  Quality over quantity creates the most stylish closet.  Always.
  • Tailor, Donate, Lend Away
    • Love a top/pant/skirt/dress but it just doesn't seem to fit right anymore? The secret to making a piece of clothing perfect is a great tailor.  Is it a $30 top or $300? Excellent tailoring makes it hard to tell the difference. (Need recommendations?  Contact me here.)
    • Set a time limit and stick to it.  Haven't worn an item in 2 years? Donate it.  If it has been that long, you've probably bought something else that you will wear instead.  Plus, clothing donations are tax deductible.
    • Still hanging on to some items that you know you won't wear but hate to give away?  Lend them!  Everyone has a friend or two who will gladly borrow your clothes or accessories.  Why not let them borrow it for a little longer?
  • Organize
    • To avoid an overwhelming closet, arrange your clothing by category. Hang all tops together, then group into sub-categories, such as: blouses, short sleeve, sleeveless. Group similar items together for a neat and systematic wardrobe. This will make it very simple when looking for a certain blouse or pair of fitted pants.
    • Fold items such as work-out wear, cotton t's, shorts, and jeans to free up coveted closet space.
Taking the time to re-organize and re-discover your wardrobe will save you time and money in the long run. Two resolutions anyone could wish for in the new year!
