A Pop of Red

Pops of bright red seemed perfect to give this black and tan outfit the right holiday spark.  These colors can be paired together any time of year, not just for the holidays.  For this special occasion, I also added some statement earrings and a bold red lip!

I cannot believe that it was 60 degrees on Christmas day in Michigan!  To celebrate this momentous occasion, I had to wear a fun skirt...and show off my new shoes.  I seriously have the most thoughtful and generous husband ever!  EEEEEK!

Wishing you the happiest of holidays this year!

Adult Overalls. Yay or Nay?

Overalls.  Just the word brings up memories of my OshKosh paint splattered short-alls that I wore when I was 5.  It doesn't really make me think of donning a pair in my mid-30's.  But, there are so many updated versions out there I'm starting to rethink my nostalgia for overalls and wonder if I should jump on this trend!

When styled with the right accessories, these one-piece options can give off a relaxed, sporty vibe or transform into an edgy, sassy look.  See what I mean?

Here are some versions to shop if you are looking to add a pair of these bad boys to your closet.

Shop Local Spotlight: Madison Boutique

I stopped over to visit Madison Boutique in Plymouth, Michigan the other day to try on some outfits and chat with the shop owner, Nikki Mattison.  Nikki and I have known each other since we were 19 when we worked at Abercrombie & Fitch together in college.  How fun is it that even now, over a decade later, we're still connected over our love for fashion and shopping?!
I'm excited to share a little bit about Madison Boutique today and show off some of the fun outfits I styled that will keep you cozy and chic in the cold winter months.  Layering is key!
Click on the links below each outfit to shop the items I am wearing.

What makes Madison Boutique so special?
"We are Michigan's first Fashion Truck and online store based in Plymouth, Michigan. I am always dedicated to bringing my customers quality, trendy designs at a moderate price.  Styles sold here reflect a love for life, fashion and having fun.  After all, isn't that what it's all about?  Each piece is selected with girls just like Closet Fashion Fix's readers in mind and will hopefully leave you feeling beautiful, sassy, and excited to get dressed!" -Nikki Mattison

Outfit #1
Blanket scarves are made for warmth and throwing on over a tunic and leggings.  This look is achieved by picking a tunic that pulls a color from the scarf as a bright background.  Wear your a fur-lined jacket over top to beat the chill.  Booties keep your feet dry and warm!

 Black jeggings

Outfit #2
This outfit is great for running errands or catching drinks with the girls.  Wearing a dress casually is a comfortable option when you don't want to put on jeans.  I would layer leggings or tights underneath the dress as it gets cooler.  Adding a statement necklace (or 2 in this case) gives this look extra sparkle.

Outfit #3
This denim top is actually a dress...disguised as a top!  When you mix dressy elements with casual pieces you create a look that is stylish and interesting.  The plaid puffy vest is a great contrast to the sparkly necklace and faux-leather pleated skirt.  Wear with leggings or tights and booties to complete the look.

Outfit #4
This look would be great for date night or drop off.  An animal print, like this snakeskin tunic top, is easy to dress up or down with black leggings.  With a longer tunic top, wear a longer necklace to draw the line down the outfit and make a leaner look.  You could also pair a structured blazer over this top for a more formal look or keep it casual with a drapey cardigan.
